Journal Publishing Workshop (Part 1)

This two-part, hands-on workshop series helps STEM faculty turn their publishing decisions into a deliberate strategy for tenure and promotion. We will aim for each session to be activity-driven rather than lecture-based, and for participants to leave with concrete products: a journal shortlist, a personal publishing plan, a submission-ready cover letter, and a draft impact paragraph for their tenure dossier statement.
Part 1: Publishing Strategy
Participants work with their own in-progress manuscripts to build a vetted shortlist of target journals, learn to spot predatory publishers, evaluate open access publishing opportunities, establish their scholarly identity through ORCID and Google Scholar, and map a realistic publication pipeline backward from their tenure review date.
Part 2: From Manuscript to Dossier
Participants will draft cover letters for their target journals, work through a revise-and-resubmit simulation using sample reviewer reports, learn what they can legally share and where to maximize visibility, and write an impact narrative that presents their metrics with context for the tenure dossier.
