Reporting an Incident
If you believe a computer, a network account, University data, or other networked resources has been compromised, immediately contact NetHelp at ESO-NetHelp@bu.edu or call the NetHelp line at x3-7328 to report the incident.
Provide detailed information, and remember to preserve all evidence in case other departments such as Human Resources, Office of Information Technology, or BU Police need to be involved.
Some examples are:
- Hardware theft or damage
- Computer abuse
- Viral infection or worm propagation
- Compromise of University data
- Use of University resources for threats or harassment
- Unauthorized changes to your computer
- User account compromise
- Significant and sudden performance degradation of your computer
- Victim of spoof or phishing scam, or of a “Social Engineering” attempt (i.e.: Someone calls you or e-mails you “pretending” to be a system administrator and asks you for your passwords, pin numbers, personal information, etc.)
