Network Operations

The Enrollment Local Area Network (LAN) is a collection of around 275 personal computers and laptops, and over 50 networked printers. This also includes several file, printer, application and database servers, and other specialized systems, working together to support the computing needs of Enrollment and Student Affairs.

Operating Hours and Scheduled Maintenance

  • Although the LAN functions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, services are unavailable to users from 8 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Saturday, when maintenance is done. During this time, network services may be temporarily interrupted.
  • Beginning at 2 a.m. daily, network servers are scanned for viruses. PCs are scanned every Wednesday at 2 a.m.
  • Every night except Friday, the network is completely backed up to disk and then to tape media. On-site retention of data is 60-90 days.
  • Each Sunday morning, a full backup of the network is performed: all data is copied to disk and then to tape media, which is sent off site weekly. Off-site retention of data is 1 year.

Network Support and Maintenance

  • The Network Service Agreement establishes an understanding between ESO and the departments within Enrollment and Student Affairs on the level of support provided by our Network Support team.
