Data Recovery
The Enrollment and Student Affairs Local Area Network provides a comprehensive data backup, recovery, and archiving scheme.
Network Backup
- Daily – All data from our file and application servers are backed up nightly to disk using CommVault Galaxy Backup & Recovery software, and then to tape.
- Weekly – A weekly full backup of all file, print, and application servers is performed each Sunday and the tapes are sent off site each week to be vaulted by Iron Mountain.
- IMPORTANT: Only files located on the network are backed up. Information stored on your computer’s local hard drives does not receive backup services. For this reason, we strongly recommend not placing files on local drives, unless specified by the ESO Network Operations Group. Lost or damaged files on local drives that are not supported by the ESO Network Operations Group cannot be recovered.
Data Restoration
- Deleted data from a network resource can be restored by several different methods, depending on when the data was deleted or corrupted, the amount of data, etc.
- If data needs to be restored, send an e-mail to ESO-NetHelp@bu.edu or call the NetHelp line at x3-7328 and provide the file name, folder name and network location, and approximate time of deletion. All efforts will be made to restore data as quickly as possible, usually within one business day. However, if the data resides on an off-site tape, the restoration process will take longer.
