Impact Evaluation Using the Translational Science Benefits Model (TSBM)
Tracking Health and Societal Impacts of CTSI Programs
The Translational Science Benefits Model (TSBM), developed by Washington University in St. Louis, provides a valuable framework for documenting translational science health and societal impacts catalyzed from CTSAs. We utilize the TSBM to categorize our program’s impacts into the four domains: clinical, community and public health, economic, and policy.
Our Hub has demonstrated impact in each of the 4 TSBM Domain areas, spread across multiple benefits. Tracking our impact uses a variety of evaluation tools ranging from:

Clinical
We use standardized progress reports to monitor the career advancement of CTSI sponsored trainees in drug and biomedical technology development.

Community
We track publication metrics and community engagement project outcomes via standardized reports and the Dimensions platform to improve healthcare access and quality.

Economic
We track patents and partnerships using Google Patents and internal progress tools to measure the economic impact of CTSI-sponsored initiatives.

Policy
We use the Overton Policy Platform to evaluate how CTSI-supported publications inform policy and guide agencies.
