Science Cafe

As part of a BU CTSI pilot grant, Dr. Gunn partnered with a community organization to disseminate the findings of her study interviewing Spanish-speaking women about letters they received informing them that they had dense breasts. La Alianza Hispana, the community partner, is a non-profit organization providing culturally and linguistically appropriate health and education programs to the Latino Community of Greater Boston. Their goal is to strengthen individuals, families and communities for ongoing success, and is the starting point for over 2,000 Latinos annually who seek support at all stages of life.

On May 19th, we gathered in Roxbury with Spanish-speaking women to discuss breast health, breast density legislation in Massachusetts, and the findings from Dr. Gunn’s pilot study. In keeping with the informal nature of Science Cafes, we ate lunch, discussed topics of importance to women and shared what we found from interviewing Spanish-speaking women about breast density legislation. The event is hopefully the first in a series of community dialogues about topics that are important to the Latino Communities in Boston.
