CSM Consortium Seed Projects
Dear Colleagues and CSM Members:
I am pleased to update you on the Center for Semiconductor Modeling (CSM) Consortium progress.
- We have additional funding which we intend to use for starting new seed projects. ARL has provided funding to BU for developing a theoretical framework for calculation of transport properties in SLS structures for Infrared (IR) Imaging. We will need materials growth/characterization and device processing/characterization to validate the modeling; therefore, we are soliciting proposals for these validation efforts. We encourage you to think about how your team can help accelerate progress on understanding transport in SLS materials, and submit a 1-page white paper that outlines “how you can uniquely contribute to understand transport in SLS materials”, and “what your technical approach is”. Please include an estimated budget and timeline for accomplishing the task. Proposals will be accepted from Consortium Members from both Industry and Academic Institutions.
- We are also soliciting proposals for seed projects not directly related to the SLS project above, but within the charter of the CSM. These can be in the areas of IR imaging (e.g. resonant structures coupled with different materials, bolometers, blinkers, APDs) or outside of IR imaging (e.g. wide bandgap semiconductor based RF electronics and power devices). Once again, proposals will be accepted from both Industry and Academic institutions that are consortium members. Furthermore, it is important to point out that ARL is also investing significantly in hardware and software tools to boost its in-house modeling capability.
- We foresee 1 to 4 projects with a funding level of $50K – $100K each (total costs)
Please submit your white paper proposals by September 7th, 2018 to the attention of Jennifer Marron, Asst. Dean for Grants Administration, at jmarron@bu.edu The CSM steering committee will evaluate the proposals and prioritize them for funding. We anticipate start of funded projects by October 1st, 2018.
We are looking forward to your organization joining the CSM Consortium. We know from our conversations that many of you are at different stages of your organization’s approval cycle. The final Articles of Collaboration and Membership Agreements for your institution to become a member of the CSM Consortium (Industry or University) are available for download on this website. If there is any way we can help in expediting the process, via phone calls or site visits, please let us know and we will be happy to take the appropriate steps. We are hoping that we will have finalized membership agreements in place by August 31. If you have any technical questions, please contact me (Prof. Enrico Bellotti) at 617-358-1576 or bellotti@bu.edu. If you have any administrative questions, please contact Jen Marron at 617-353-5226 or jmarron@bu.edu.
Thank you for your continued interest in the CSM Consortium.
Best regards.
