The Office of Information Technology offers students accounts on the Academic Computing System (ACS) as long as they remain enrolled. Approximately two weeks before an account is due to expire, students receive notice of expiration via e-mail; a message is also displayed each time they log on.
Graduating Students
Students in both undergraduate and graduate degree programs will retain their ACS accounts for one semester after graduation. Accounts will expire:
- in August for May graduates
- in January for September graduates
- in May for January graduates
Students on a Leave of Absence
ACS accounts will remain active while on an official leave of absence.
Withdrawing degree students: Students withdrawing from a degree program retain their ACS accounts for a period of time after withdrawing. Accounts expire in February for a fall withdrawal and in October for a spring withdrawal.
Non-Degree Students
ACS accounts are offered to non-degree students while they are registered for courses. ACS accounts expire two weeks after a student ceases to be registered for courses.
Returning former students: ACS accounts can be reactivated or a new account created upon re-registration for courses. Please visit the I/O Services Window in the basement PC lab at the Office of Information Technology, 111 Cummington Street, to open your account. Accounts normally become available within twelve hours.
Faculty and Staff
Retiring faculty and staff are eligible to retain their accounts. Otherwise, faculty and staff are eligible for accounts only while employed by the University. Accounts may be expired immediately upon termination. Former employees engaged in studies at the University can usually retain their accounts as long as they remain registered for classes.
Guest Accounts
Guest accounts are set up for a maximum of one year. Expiration for these accounts occurs four times a year -- in April, July, October, and January.
