Caps & Gowns

In order to participate in ceremonies, you will need University-approved regalia provided by the BU Campus Store, the approved supplier for caps & gowns. Bachelor’s and master’s candidates purchase their keepsake regalia sets, and doctoral candidates rent their regalia set.

Ordering

  • Ordering regalia will be done online only, starting at the beginning of the spring semester.
    • Honor cords are distributed to the appropriate students through the schools & colleges and cannot be purchased. Email your commencement coordinator with questions.
  • To avoid processing and transit delays, place your order as soon as possible.
  • Options include home delivery or campus pickup.
  • If you want your regalia to take photos before May, we recommend selecting HOME DELIVERY. Orders placed for on-campus pickup will not be available until May 4th.

Deadlines

March 23: Order your Cap & Gown for campus pickup option. (Campus pickup orders will be available beginning May 4 at the BU Campus Store.)

March 27:  Custom-made regalia orders may be placed at any time, but to ensure arrival by Commencement, orders must be made by this deadline.

April 1: Doctoral Candidates: All Cap & Gown orders must be placed. (Doctoral regalia will not be available to order after April 1.)

April 15: Bachelor & Master Candidates: Final deadline to order your Cap & Gown to receive for Commencement Weekend.  (Cap & Gowns will not be available to order after April 15.)

May 4: Campus pickup orders available at the BU Campus Store.

May 14 – 17: Commencement 2026 Weekend

May 26: Campus pickup rental regalia needs to be returned to the BU Campus Store by May 26, after which they must be returned by mail to Herff Jones by June 1.

Bachelor’s

$72 pricing includes:

  • Red Gown
  • Black Cap
  • Tassel

Master’s

$119 pricing includes:

  • Red Gown
  • Master hood
  • Black Cap
  • Tassel

Doctoral (rental)*

$109 pricing includes

  • Gown with velvet panels and sleeve chevrons
  • Doctoral Hood
  • Black velvet tam
  • Tassel

*All rented doctoral regalia must be returned by deadline to avoid replacement charges.

Custom Regalia
