2018 Alumni Awards
CFA’s 2018 Distinguished Alumni Awards honored three exceptional alums for their outstanding achievements in their careers and communities, and in service to the arts and society. The awards were held on September 21, 2018, at the Joan & Edgar Booth Theatre in conjunction with Boston University Alumni Weekend.
The 2018 award recipients were Sedrick Huckaby (BUTI’95, CFA’97), Kelly Kaduce (’99), and Katy Rubin (’07).
Kelly Kaduce performed the titular character in Santa Fe Opera’s 2018 production of Madama Butterfly, about which Broadway World wrote, “Kaduce gave a performance filled with beautiful tone quality, exquisite phrasing, and dramatic conviction.”
Painter Sedrick Huckaby takes inspiration from European Old Masters, the quilting tradition, and the family and friends who serve as the subjects of his portraits. His distinctive use of thickly applied paint gives his works a luminous sculptural quality.
Katy Rubin, founder and executive director of Theatre of the Oppressed NYC, is a self-described “joker, actor, and circus artist” who leads theater workshops for homeless adults and youth, LGBT teens, people living with HIV/AIDS, and recent immigrants, among others.
