Pre-Graduate Studies

This 4-week online program prepares incoming Boston University (BU) international students to succeed in their BU graduate degree program through interactive classes featuring student and instructor-led discussions, short presentations, graduate-level research and writing assignments, reading and lecture responses, and more. By the end of the program, participants will become more successful in a U.S. university classroom and increase their confidence and understanding of the expectations, teaching methods, and assignments that BU graduate students experience during their degree program.

Program Features

Small online classes with interactive instruction and the opportunity to meet and study alongside other incoming BU graduate students from around the world
Lectures by Boston University graduate faculty on a range of topics with follow-up discussions and analyses
Preparation and training for future graduate coursework including field-specific readings and language development. Topics include navigating small group projects and discussions, the flipped classroom model, graduate level writing and research, reading strategies, using credible sources and citation tools, and more.
Participants who successfully complete the program will receive a BU CELOP Certificate of Completion.

Instructional Platform and Class Hours

The program will be offered online with live classes offered through Zoom. Class content will be offered through BU’s Learning Management System (LMS), Blackboard, in order to help students acclimate to the LMS that they will use for future graduate coursework. Synchronous (live) class hours will be determined following the completion of program enrollment and will consider students’ time zones to the extent possible.
