Today’s Close-up

CDS Wage Equity Event
One reason behind a partnership between Boston University and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is that recent reports show women in Greater Boston earn 79 cents for every dollar a man makes. The commonwealth’s new wage-equity legislation, the Pay Equity Law, and BU’s potential contribution was the focus of a meeting May 30 at the Duan Family Center for Computing & Data Sciences. Participants talked about a platform BU researchers have built to track wage disparities across the state. Shown here: Azer Bestavros, BU associate provost for computing and data sciences and a William Fairfield Warren Distinguished Professor (from left); Evelyn Murphy, president of The WAGE Project, Inc., and a former Massachusetts lieutenant governor; Lauren Jones, Mass. secretary of labor and workforce development; Brooke Thomson, president and CEO of Associated Industries of Massachusetts; and Neha Gondal, a CDS associate professor.
