George Will warns Class of 2003 against historical amnesia

George Will’s speech at BU’s 2003 Commencement was full of baseball stories. Although Will is a political columnist, that should not be surprising, because the self-professed baseball addict admits that the sport “is always on my mind. I write about politics primarily to support my baseball habit.”

Metcalf awards honor three teachers of excellence

The Greek mathematician Archimedes, one of the most important intellectual figures of antiquity, is known for his discovery of formulas for the area and volume of various geometric figures, as well as his application of geometry to hydrostatics and mechanics. He also discovered the principle of buoyancy. But Patricia Johnson’s students know him in other ways.

Student speaker savors his BU education, from antipasti to dolce

John Degory, a graduating senior from the College of Arts and Sciences, invoked his grandmother’s fine Italian cooking as the student speaker at BU’s 130th Commencement exercises. Comparing his BU education to a hearty Italian meal, he described the different courses of intellectual and spiritual nourishment he’s ingested over the past four years.
