Walt Meissner, CFA dean ad interim (right), presented this year’s Kahn Career Entry Awards to (from left) Vasilija Zivanic, Baron Vaughn, and Petra Sairanen at a ceremony on May 12. Each received a cash award of $15,000. Established in 1985 by benefactor Esther B. Kahn (SED’55, Hon.’86), who died this year, the award is given to exceptional undergraduate and graduate students from CFA’s schools of music, visual arts, and theatre arts. Zivanic, who received an M.F.A. in costume design, will use her award to continue her studies with renowned fabric painter Mary Mason at the New York firm Parson Meares, where she will work with top costume designers. Vaughn earned a B.F.A. in theatre arts and his award will allow him to move to New York City to help jumpstart his career in the theater community there. It will also help defray professional costs associated with auditioning and attending casting calls. Sairanen, who received an M.F.A. in painting, will establish a painting studio in Boston. Her work was shown this spring in Boston and Portsmouth, N.H. Photo by Vernon Doucette
