Why
I'm running For quite a while I've thought about running in a major road race such as the Boston Marathon. I felt that completing such a feat would be a self-gratifying experience, both from a physical and an emotional standpoint. But I just didn't have the drive to complete the goal -- until now. I recently decided that if I could run on behalf of a good cause, it would not only give me the inspiration to train for the race, but also motivate me along the way. I could focus on the many less fortunate individuals who have been afflicted by a life-threatening disease such as cancer. Therefore, I have decided to run this year's Boston Marathon for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, one of the premier cancer centers in the world. -- Sheldon Itzkowitz, assistant clinical professor in periodontology and oral biology, department of general dentistry, Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine |
