In line for a national championship: BU's in-line hockey club team celebrates its first-ever New England Collegiate Roller Hockey Association championship in late February with a 5-3 win over Northeastern at Howard Sports Arena in Saco, Maine -- a win that qualified the team for the national championship tournament held in Upland, Calif., from April 5 to 8. On Friday, April 6, the roller Terriers beat Cal Poly/Pomona and then lashed out on Saturday morning against two-time Collegiate Roller Hockey League champion Michigan State with a 4-3 overtime win. It was Michigan's first loss in a tournament game. However, in the elite eight BU lost to Rochester Institute of Technology 3-2; RIT scored the winning goal with 18 seconds left in the game. RIT wound up winning the national championship. The team, which was formed in 1999, is coached by Rob Mariano (CGS'96, CAS'99). Photo by Luke Hartig (CAS'02) |
