Andrew Emili and the Emili Lab explore how macromolecular networks in both healthy and diseased cells and tissues reveal the widely unknown fundamental mechanistic basis of biological systems. To study these networks, the Emili Lab combines expertise in biochemistry, molecular biology and systems biology. The Emili research team has outstanding skills in state-of-the-art protein mass spectrometry and other high-throughput techniques for investigating the molecular networks in a system-wide manner.
Research Areas
- Systematic study of protein interaction networks. More specifically, 1) essential biological processes and subcellular compartments which determine overall function, 2) membrane-associated pathways which are crucial targets for drug design, and 3) drug-resistant pathogens and infections.
- High precision, quantitative mass spectrometry. State-of-the-art protein mass spectrometry, high performance chromatography and computational resources allow the Emili Lab to map and analyze previously uncharacterized interaction networks. Recent advancements in their mass spectrometers in particular allow for the characterization of low abundance interaction partners.
