Post COVID-19 ramp up activities
As on-campus research and activities ramps-up, the Biomedical Engineering Core Facilities (BECF) has worked hard in preparing to get back to work. As you may have noticed, the website has been completely updated with new information and procedures to ensure a safe work environment for all users in this post COVID-19 era. To ensure that all users have read and understood these new policies that were designed to meet university guidelines, we are requiring all students, staff, and faculty re-register through our online portal. Users who have not re-registered will have their access revoke on June 15, 2020. To ensure uninterrupted access to the core facilities, please read and follow the steps listed below. |
- Read the core facility general guidelines carefully Core Facilities General Guidelines (rev 1.7).
- Register as a core user using the online form. You can find the link here.
- Apply for card access through Zaius. In your user comments, please make sure to specify which instruments you need access to. You will not be granted access unless you are a registered user.
- Reserve instrument time using Google calendar.
- You will receive invitations to Google calendars specific to the instruments listed on your Zaius room access request.Instruments in the same area will be grouped into one calendar to help maintain 6 feet distance between users.
For room B08 - Station 1: Instron and Rheometer
- Station 2: DLS, sonicator and osmometer
- Station 3: Plate reader, qPCR and nano-indenter
- Station 4: Geldoc, contact angle goniometer and tensiometer
- Station 5: FTIR, microtome and spectrometer
For room B06 - Widefield Microscope #1
- FV3000 Confocal
- FV1000 Confocal
- VS120 Slide Scanner
- Tissue Culture and Liquid Nitrogen storage
For other rooms
The following rooms will be single occupancy only- B07 (high speed centrifuge)
- 507 (cryostat)
- 509 (AFM)
- 623 (lyophilizer)
- 708 (dish washer and autoclave)
- Provide user name (first and last), PI name (first and last) and instrument name for each reservation.
- There must be a 30 minute down time between reservations.
- You will receive invitations to Google calendars specific to the instruments listed on your Zaius room access request.Instruments in the same area will be grouped into one calendar to help maintain 6 feet distance between users.
- When you come to the core facilities, please make sure to
- Wear masks at all times.
- Follow signs for traffic patterns. Enter B08 using the door next to B06 and exit B08 using the door close to the freight elevator. We have moved instruments 6 feet away from the primary travel lane. The plate reader is now at the back of the room. There is no traffic flow in B06.
- Sanitize surfaces using 70% ethanol or sanitary wipes before and after use.
- When you are done, dispose waste properly, turn off the instrument and sign the log sheet.
- Wash your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds before leaving the room.
