Jeffrey Hutter, senior associate dean of the Goldman School of Dental Medicine, was recently elected chair of the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), which as part of the American Dental Association accredits dental and dental-related postsecondary education programs.

Members, called commissioners, serve for a maximum of four years. Hutter’s first two years were as a regular commissioner, followed by a year as vice chair, a term that ends in October when he will become chair for his final year on the commission.

“Dr. Hutter has worked tirelessly to improve the accreditation process, which is critical to maintain and ensure excellence in dental education,” says SDM Dean Spencer N. Frankl.

“I always had an interest in accreditation,” says Hutter, a professor of endodontics and the Herbert Schilder Chair of the endodontics department. “The ultimate goal is to ensure that students enrolled in schools of dental medicine for predoctoral and postdoctoral education receive the best education.” Hutter is also director of SDM’s postdoctoral program in endondontics.
