This year, at least, the rain was warmer than it was in 2006, and Boston University’s 134th Commencement ceremony seemed to lift the spirits of the Class of 2007 well above the threatening ceiling of clouds. More than 5,800 plastic-covered graduates filled Nickerson Field, while several thousand admiring family members and friends listened to keynote speaker and Nobel Laureate Steven Chu offer hope that science could ease some of the pain of impending climate change. And when the speaking was done, and the pomp went quiet, the hugging began.
