CFA and LAW Alums Named to University Leadership

Boston University has named a concert pianist and marketing expert to the Board of Trustees and added the treasurer of the country’s largest wine and spirits distributor to the Board of Overseers.
SungEun Han-Andersen (CFA’85), who has a Bachelor of Music from the College of Fine Arts and is a member of the CFA Dean’s Advisory Board, is the University’s newest trustee. She is the president and secretary of the G. C. Andersen Family Foundation, whose gifts to CFA honor pianist Maria Clodes Jaguaribe (CFA’76), a CFA associate professor of music. Han-Andersen is also president of the C. George Van Kampen Foundation, a key supporter of CFA’s renovation campaign.
Steven R. Becker (LAW’76), the executive vice president and treasurer of Southern Wine & Spirits of America, was appointed to the Board of Overseers, an advisory body to the trustees and to the University administration. Becker and his wife, Abbe, established the Becker Family Teacher of the Year Award at the College of Communication in 2005 in honor of the late David Brudnoy, a COM professor.

Alan M. Leventhal, the chair of the Board of Trustees, announced the appointments yesterday. He also announced that two current overseers, Richard D. Reidy (SMG’82) and James Apteker (SHA’88), were elected chair and vice chair, respectively, of the Board of Overseers.
Reidy, the president of Datadirect Technologies, Inc., will also serve as an ex officio member of the Board of Trustees. Reidy and his wife, Minda Reidy (SMG’82, GSM’84), in 2005 established the Reidy Family Scholarship for the children of fire, police, or military personnel; he received the School of Management’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2006.
Apteker, a member of the School of Hospitality Administration’s Board of Directors, owns Longwood Events, an event-planning and management company based in Boston. He opened the Boston University Club, a private business luncheon club for BU alumni and local professionals, at 60 State St., Boston, in 2004. In 2003, he received a BU Young Alumni Council Award and was named SHA’s Alumnus of the Year.
