Introduction

Alcohol use is a major public health issue among adolescents. Appeals to abstain from or moderate alcohol use based solely on moral or legal arguments have had minimal effects in reducing the use of alcohol and associated high risk behaviors among adolescents.

We have developed a scientific approach to alcohol education based on an investigation of the physiological effects of alcohol on humans (and on adolescents in particular). The goals are to introduce a need to investigate the physiological effects of alcohol while advancing student understanding of the nature of scientific investigation and science process skills.
