University Teaching Awards

Nominations open through October 24

Office of the Provost invites faculty, students, staff, and alumni to help us recognize and celebrate exceptional teaching at BU. Nominations are now open for our University-wide Teaching Awards, including the 2026 Metcalf Cup and Prize and Metcalf Awards for Excellence in Teaching, the 2026 Gerald and Deanne Gitner Family Award for Innovation in Teaching with Technology, and the 2026 Provost’s Scholar-Teacher of the Year Award.

Metcalf Cup and Prize & Metcalf Awards
The University’s highest teaching honors, awarded to faculty who demonstrate outstanding teaching and a commitment to innovation. One Cup and Prize recipient ($10,000) and up to two Award recipients ($5,000 each) are chosen each year.

Gitner Award for Innovation in Teaching with Technology
Recognizes faculty who innovate undergraduate learning through creative use, development, or adaptation of technology that enhances learning outcomes and inspires colleagues. One recipient receives $10,000.

Provost’s Scholar-Teacher of the Year
Celebrates faculty who are not only distinguished scholars but also inspiring and innovative teachers. One recipient receives $5,000.

How to Nominate

  • Complete the nomination form on the University-Wide Teaching Awards webpage.
  • Submit forms by email to apunderg@bu.edu by Friday, October 24.
  • Award details, nomination guidelines, and past recipients are available on the Provost’s website.
