Each academic year, the Office of the Provost cordially invites faculty members, staff, students, and alumni to submit nominations for the University-wide Teaching Awards. BU faculty, staff, students and alumni are encouraged to nominate faculty members for the following Awards.

Nomination Forms must be emailed to the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Affairs at apunderg@bu.edu by October 13, 2023.

The Metcalf Cup and Prize and the Metcalf Awards are the highest honors for overall teaching excellence at Boston University. The awards recognize members of the faculty who demonstrate excellence in teaching and a commitment to innovation. Each year the Provost’s Faculty Teaching Awards Committee selects one Metcalf Cup and Prize recipient who receives a stipend of $10,000, and up to two Metcalf Award recipients who receive stipends of $5,000.  Members of the BU community are invited to nominate one faculty member for these awards. The Gerald and Deanne Gitner Family Award for Innovation in Teaching with Technology recognizes the faculty member or team that best exemplifies innovation in teaching through the use, development, or adaptation of technology. The award celebrates innovation that results in positive learning outcomes for undergraduate students and that is recognized or adopted by faculty colleagues within or outside Boston University. Each year the Provost’s Faculty Teaching Awards Committee selects a Gitner Award recipient who receives a stipend of $10,000. Members of the BU community are invited to nominate one faculty member for this award. The Provost’s Scholar-Teacher of the Year Award recognizes outstanding scholars who excel as innovative teachers inside and outside the classroom. Each year the Provost’s Faculty Teaching Awards Committee selects a Provost’s Scholar-Teacher of the Year Award recipient who receives a stipend of $5,000. Members of the BU community are invited to nominate one faculty member for this award.
