Opera Design: History & Process

This course explores the unique stylistic elements and qualities of opera and opera design. Taught as a seminar/discussion style course, weekly topics include opera history and major styles, understanding the libretto, storytelling, characters in opera, translations and super-titles, contemporary and experimental opera, culminating in team development of scenic, costume, and lighting designs for a theoretical production. 2.0 credits.
