Topic is Print Lab, 2 credit. This 500 level studio course is an introduction to various printmaking techniques for graduate students or for those who need a refresher course. We will monotypes and monoprints, relief printmaking, basic etching, collograph, image transfer, pronto plates and polymer platemaking for photo images. Meeting once a week for 3 hours, each lesson will focus on a specific technique at a level that will allow students to work further on their own. Students do not have to be printmakers or photographers, but those who find these techniques will be useful in their studio practice. |

Topic is "Comics Genre", students must register for 2 units.
In this storytelling course, students will engage in an in-depth exploration of narrative techniques within the medium of comics, with a particular focus on the interplay of genre. By examining genre as a framework for understanding narrative structure, students will critically analyze how genre conventions can both inspire and challenge creative expression. The course will introduce a diverse array of texts for research and study, facilitating a comprehensive understanding of the genre’s evolution and its implications for comic storytelling. Students will receive guidance on employing various narrative strategies, culminating in the creation of their own comic book pages. Through this process, they will refine their ability to navigate, subvert, and innovate within the conventions of comic genres, ultimately enhancing their skills in both writing and visual storytelling. |
