Drawing into Animation
CFA AR 527
Character design is a vital element of visual storytelling. In this visual narrative course, students will focus on developing compelling characters through thoughtful design, narrative context, and visual language. Emphasizing personality, silhouette, and symbolic resonance, the course guides students through the iterative process of building original, story-driven characters that function as narrative anchors within a visual world. Through lectures, critiques, and independent research, students will engage deeply with design principles, cultural reference points, and narrative psychology to create character concepts that are both visually memorable and narratively rich. This course emphasizes storytelling development through character design and will not be teaching specific animation techniques.
