  • PDP FT 130: Boxing
    Learn boxing basics starting with stance and hand placement and proceeding to the jab, the straight right, hooks, and uppercuts. Learn how to slip, duck, and parry a jab; practice counter-punches and footwork. Get a great aerobic workout and walk away with improved self-confidence.
  • PDP FT 131: Boot Camp
    A comprehensive course in real deal fitness. Work on cardio-respiratory muscular strength and endurance and flexibility. This is a tried and true workout consisting of running drills, abdominal work, upper body strength, and endurance exercises and walking with weight. Basic self-defense skills from boxing, wrestling, Jiu-Jitsu and American Combat Karate will also be covered. Get a solid base of physical and mental training to get in superior condition that will help in all sports and outdoor activities. This will be a high level class working with all ability levels.
  • PDP FT 132: Kickboxing
    This combination of American and traditional Thai kickboxing is a full-body, high-intensity workout that challenges muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility. Traditional Muay Thai uses fists, elbows, knees, and feet as tools of self-defense. Focus pads and kicking shields are used to teach correct punching and kicking techniques.
  • PDP FT 140: Marathon Training
    This course will provide the knowledge and physical foundation needed for students to prepare for completion of a 5K, 10K, marathon or marathon. Content will cover topics such as nutrition guidelines for distance running, injury prevention, creating and evaluating a training plan, maintaining and monitoring a training log, and planning of group runs. Information on obtaining an official entry into the Boston Marathon through fundraising efforts will be provided. The course will meet once a week.
  • PDP FT 306: Personal Trainer Certification Prep
    This class is designed to prepare you to take the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA-CPT) Certified Personal Trainer Examination. You will learn how to design safe and effective exercise programs and provide the guidance to help clients achieve their personal health and fitness goals. The course includes practical and theoretical seminars in basic anatomy and exercise physiology, fitness evaluation, exercise program design, nutrition, teaching methods, and safety issues. Extra class fee includes text and test prep materials. 2 cr. Either sem.
  • PDP FT 308: Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist Certification Prep
    This class is designed to prepare you to take the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach (CSCS). You will learn how to apply scientific knowledge to train athletes for the primary goal of improving athletic performance. Course includes practical and theoretical seminars in anatomy, exercise physiology, athletic testing, advance strength training principles, sports nutrition, and injury prevention. Extra class fee includes text and test prep materials.
  • PDP GS 100: Beginning Volleyball
    This course is designed for beginners who have either no experience to only a few years of limited experience. Learn and practice techniques used in power volleyball: bump passing, setting, spiking, digging, and serving. Various drills will be used to encourage skill improvement.
  • PDP GS 101: Fencing, Beginning
    This course will cover the rules of fencing, basic footwork, techniques, and physical training. Each class will include warm-ups and footwork, followed by fencing with electrical equipment. By the end of this course students will have a fundamental understanding of fencing and the discipline and sportsmanship that the sport requires.
  • PDP GS 107: Beginning Badminton
    This course will allow the students to understand the basics of badminton. It will introduce the old and new type of scoring in games, different hand grips, footwork, and badminton ranking. The students mainly focus on one type of hand grip, which is called the basic grip. This grip will allow students to perform different types of shots, enabling them to compete with players in the C division.
  • PDP GS 108: Gymnastics, Beginning
    Students concentrate on learning general body understanding and specific skills in tumbling and on apparatus. 1 cr either semester
  • PDP GS 109: Beginning Gymnastics Tumbling Skills
    Students concentrate on learning and understanding basic gymnastics movements and skills, building into the fundamentals of tumbling, as well as further advanced tumbling skills.
  • PDP GS 110: Beginning Tennis
    Introduction to the rules and fundamental practices of tennis including basic strokes, techniques, and playing in game situations. Tennis is played on the indoor courts at the Track and Tennis Center.
  • PDP GS 128: Beginning Table Tennis
    This course will allow students to understand the basic skills and concepts of table tennis in singles and doubles. Instruction will be focused on the elements of the modern offensive style of play, combining Chinese and American models. Students will be introduced to the two basic grips then learn forehands, backhands, service and receive, followed by advanced looping. Emphasis on psychology and strategies will be incorporated into the course throughout. Students will leave the class with the competency to train and compete with the University's club sport B team.
  • PDP GS 190: Low Intermediate Volleyball
    Low Intermediate Volleyball is intended for those who completed the Beginner Volleyball course or have had some exposure to competitive volleyball and are able to pass/set/hit and serve. This class is designed to refine these skills and develop more consistency. Various offenses and defensive rotations will be introduced and incorporated into class scrimmages. Class time will be divided between drills to refine basics and implementing skills during scrimmages. Students who are unsure about their skill level and which class to sign up for should sign up for a level lower.
  • PDP GS 200: High Intermediate Volleyball
    High Intermediate Volleyball is intended for those who have completed the Beginners Volleyball and Low Intermediate courses or have had significant exposure to competitive volleyball. Students are expected to be able to serve/pass/set consistently, be able to hit roll shots, and be familiar with the 4-2 and 5-1 rotation. Basic skills are briefly reviewed and practiced, and complex offenses and defenses are introduced and incorporated into class scrimmage. Class time will be primarily spent on implementing skills during scrimmages. Students who are unsure about their skill level and which class to sign up for should sign up for a level lower.
  • PDP GS 207: Intermediate Badminton
    This course will allow the students to understand more than the basic skills of badminton. It will reinforce different hand grips, serves, clears, drops, lifts, and smashes, footwork, and strategy. Students are expected to have their own racquet.
  • PDP GS 208: Gymnastics, Intermediate
    Intermediate-level students work to improve existing skills and achieve specific goals on floor and other apparatus.
  • PDP GS 209: Intermediate Gymnastics Tumbling Skills
    Students concentrate on learning and understanding the movements and skills of intermediate tumbling, building upon the fundamentals and progressing to higher skill elements.
  • PDP GS 210: Intermediate Tennis
    Course is designed to review and expand skills learned in Beginning Tennis (GS 110). Students will build on fundamental strokes and techniques with lessons on topspin, slicing and utilizing them in interactive play and match situations.
  • PDP GS 228: Intermediate Table Tennis
    The Intermediate Table Tennis course is designed for those who are fluent in the basic techniques of table tennis, including but not limited to, forehand/backhand drives/loops, serves, and footwork. The course will aim to develop the speed and spin quality of those basic techniques, in addition to learning more advanced techniques, such as third-ball attack, FH/BH flicks, serve deception, and others. Emphasis will also be placed on psychological pressure (8.10 scenarios). Simulations and multi-ball will be highly utilized.
