  • GMS PS 700: Anatomy
    This foundation course prepares the PA student to recognize the cell morphology of specific organs and soft tissues of the human body, identify anatomical structures as they relate to the physical examination, specific diseases and surgical procedures and to employ 3-D spatial reasoning to interpret radiographic studies. The course utilizes lectures, case-based discussion and the dissection laboratory.
  • GMS PS 701: Basic Medical Sciences
    This course provides a broad foundation for medical sciences study including such topics as biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, and immunology. This course utilizes lectures as its means of instruction.
  • GMS PS 702: Physiology
    This course prepares the PA student to apply physiological principles to the practice of medicine . The course utilizes lectures, case-based discussion and the laboratory. The course has several modules including but not limited to cardio-vascular, pulmonary, endocrinology, renal, neurologic and gastro-intestinal physiology. The course utilizes traditional lectures and laboratory sessions to reinforce the principles of normal physiology.
  • GMS PS 703: Introduction to Research
    The Introduction to Research course prepares the PA student to search and interpret medical literature as it relates to best practices for clinical care, epidemiology, and disease surveillance. In addition, the course prepares the students to develop their thesis project. This course utilizes lectures, journal clubs and online learning as means of instruction.
  • GMS PS 704: Introduction to Clinical Medicine
    The Introduction to Clinical Medicine course prepares the PA student to utilize the patient-centered interview and physical examination to assess pediatric, adult and geriatric patients. This course uses lectures, interview role play sessions and physical examination practica.
  • GMS PS 719: Foundations of Microbiology, Pathology and Pharmacology
    The course provides the foundations for the student's medical microbiology, pathology, and pharmacology throughout the curriculum of their Diagnosis and Therapy course. The overall goal of the course is to provide knowledge and understanding of the fundamental principle of these subjects that are the basis of current approaches to prevention, diagnosis and management of disease. The application of these scientific principles and knowledge to the practice of medicine, including the development of life-long learning and problem-solving skills, is emphasized. PA students only. 2 cr. Spring.

    This course prepares the PA student to apply knowledge of the epidemiology, clinical presentation, pathophysiology, diagnostic evaluation, differential diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of human disease to clinical patients. Disease and Therapy consists of six modules in which students learn the microbiological basis of infectious diseases and pharmacologic treatment. Modules address diseases and disorders by organ system: Pulmonary, Cardiovascular, Rheumatology, Renal, Gastrointestinal, Dermatology, Reproduction, Endocrinology/Nutrition, Neurology, Psychiatry, Oncology, and Hematology.     This course prepares the PA student to synthesize their basic science and clinical medicine knowledge to approach a patient. The PA student will also learn to create a portion of the medical record. The course utilizes traditional lectures, clinical reasoning sessions, journal clubs and hospital sessions for instruction.
  • GMS PS 743: Clinical Practicum II
    This course prepares the PA student to synthesize their basic science and clinical medicine knowledge to approach a patient and builds on what they have learned in ICM and CP I. The PA student will also learn to create the entire medical record and develop their oral presentation skills. The course utilizes traditional lectures, clinical reasoning sessions, journal clubs and hospital sessions for instruction.
  • GMS PS 744: Preventive Medicine
    This course prepares the PA student to apply knowledge and counseling skills to prevent disease and encourage healthy behaviors. The course utilizes traditional lectures, case-based discussions and interactive projects for instruction.

  • GMS PS 801: Advanced Clinical Medicine
    This course prepares the PA student to apply knowledge of the epidemiology, clinical presentation, pathophysiology, diagnostic evaluation, differential diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of human disease to clinical patients at the next level. The course utilizes lectures and case-based discussions while the content focuses on pediatrics, geriatrics and emergency medicine.
