PDP MB 105: Gentle Restorative Yoga
This is a hatha/kripalu style class with the focus on breathing, long periods of holding postures, and variations of posture flows that are gentler on the neck, wrists, knees, and back. Each class will focus on posture options to protect students that have chronic pain or are working through an injury and using breathing techniques to ease into a meditative mindset. The end of class concludes with a 10 minute savasana. -
PDP MB 106: Guided Yoga Meditation
Meditation is a technique for making the mind more stable, peaceful and clear and for developing insight and good qualities. Learn and practice a variety of guided meditations from the yoga tradition including meditation on the breath, visualization, mantra meditation and mindfulness meditation. Class will also include gentle yoga postures that help prepare the body for seated meditation. -
PDP MB 110: Vinyasa (Flow) Yoga
Often called "Flow" yoga, Vinyasa Yoga links breath and movement while "flowing" through a series of poses. These classes will move through poses more quickly than Hatha Yoga, but are less strenuous than Power Yoga. Classes will work to improve strength, flexibility and balance while promoting relaxation and stress release. -
PDP MB 111: Slow Flow and Yin Yoga
This class is designed to blend slow flowing yoga movement with extended holds in deep postures. The flow movement warms and stretches the muscles and helps students tone breath and body together. The Yin Yoga portion of this practice works on improving flexibility and joint mobility, increasing circulation, and reducing stress and anxiety. Holding postures promotes calmness and clarity of mind. It teaches us stillness in a fast-paced world. -
PDP MB 115: Yoga/Pilates Fusion
Yoga/Pilates Fusion combines the slow, fluid movements of traditional Vinyasa Yoga with the core stabilization and muscular control of Pilates for a perfect blend of exercises that builds flexibility, balance and strength. This flowing format is fun and easy to follow and will boost your metabolism, burn fat and raise your energy levels. Every class finishes with a few minutes of deep relaxation. -
PDP MB 201: Hatha Yoga, Low Intermediate
Prereq: PDP MB 101 or the equivalent. Deepen harmony of mind and body through gradual perfection of postures and increased attentiveness to breathing. Stress, stiffness, and weakness transform into deep relaxation. -
PDP MB 202: Ashtanga Yoga, Intermediate
Prereq: PDP MB 102 or prior yoga experience and ability. Students will be guided through the energizing and flowing sequence of postures that comprise the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga, including intermediate backbends, arm balances, and inversions. For those who wish to experience new potentials of strength and flexibility. -
PDP MB 203: Hatha Yoga, High Intermediate
Prereq: PDP MB 201. For dedicated intermediates who wish to perfect the more difficult moves and increase their understanding of the mechanisms of the human body. -
PDP MB 302: Ashtanga Yoga, High Intermediate
Prereq: PDP MB 202 or prior yoga experience and ability. This class is for dedicated Ashtanga Yoga practitioners who want to take their practice to the next level. In addition to reviewing and practicing the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga, students will be introduced to the Intermediate Series in a safe and gradual manner. The Intermediate Series is a challenging practice that cleanses the nervous system through a combination of twisting, back-bending, hip-opening and strengthening postures. -
PDP MB 401: Yoga Teacher Training: 200-Hour Part 1
This course is the first part of a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School (RYS) 200-Hour Teacher Training class. Students who complete this class and PDP MB 402 Yoga Teacher Training: 200-Hour Part 2 are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as Registered Yoga Teachers (RYT). The course includes techniques, training and practice; teaching methodology; anatomy and physiology and yoga philosophy ethics and lifestyle. Students will be observed teaching both as an assistant and as a lead instructor. -
PDP MB 402: Yoga Teacher Training: 200-Hour Part 2
This course is the second and final part of a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School (RYS) 200-Hour Teacher Training class. Students who successfully complete this class will be eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as Registered Yoga Teachers (RYT). The course build upon the techniques, training and practice; teaching methodology; anatomy and physiology and yoga philosophy ethics and lifestyle covered in Part 1. Students will be observed teaching both as an assistant and as a lead instructor. -
PDP NT 102: Nutrition Essentials
Just as every person is unique, every person's healthy diet must also be unique. In this course students will learn the fundamentals of nutrition and be guided through an assessment of their individual nutritional needs. Participants will develop skills and strategies to apply course concepts to their day-to-day lives and work toward their personal health and nutrition goals. Emphasis will be placed on separating nutrition fact from fiction and examining products and marketing with a critical eye. Skills and strategies for meal planning, dining out, food shopping, and recipe modification will be introduced through interactive sessions and cooking demonstrations. This class is for non-nutrition majors only. -
PDP NT 104: Healthy Cooking on a Budget
If healthy eating was simple, affordable, and delicious, everyone would do it! How do you plan balanced meals and snacks without breaking the bank? Step 1: Understand your unique nutrition needs and the health-promoting foods that will help you meet them. Step 2: Perfect the skills and strategies for stocking a healthy kitchen, modifying favorite recipes, and basic cooking by participating in a series of interactive sessions. The end result: You will be well on your way to a lifetime of true "value meals" This class is for non-nutrition majors only. -
PDP NT 112: Sports Nutrition
Whether exercising for fun, health, or competition, nutrition is essential to staying energized throughout the day and during activity. In this course, students will learn the fundamentals of nutrition and be guided through an assessment of their individual nutritional needs. Participants will develop skills and strategies for fueling physical activity and sports, with an emphasis on eating to support optimal performance and recovery. Students will also learn to separate nutrition fact from fiction and examine products and marketing with a critical eye. Skills and strategies for meal planning, dining out, food shopping, recipe modification and evaluation of dietary supplements will be introduced through interactive sessions. This class is for non-nutrition majors only. -
PDP OE 110: Introduction to Backpacking
This course is an introduction to backpacking, a term used to describe how people travel by foot carrying what they need. Our course is designed around the following objective: a 2-night/3-day backpacking trip along New Hampshire's Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway Trail. With this planning objective in mind, our course will give you all the tools (and the thinking behind the tools and processes) to plan other adventures as well. The Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway Trail Backpacking Trip will be offered as a supplemental non-credit course to practice your skills, but it is not required to pass this credit course. ***NOTE: This is a non-standard course which means that the deadlines to drop this course differ from most university courses. PDP OE 140: Rock Climbing, Beginning
A comprehensive introduction to indoor rock climbing. Topics include: belay skills, boulder and top rope climbing technique, mental aspects of climbing, social and environmental impacts of rock climbing. Classes are primarily based on physical activity, mixed with traditional learning. Attendance on first day of class is mandatory. Participants must pay a $40 equipment fee that includes a semester pass for equipment rental. -
PDP OE 150: Urban Bicycling
Bicycles provide a fast, fun, affordable, and healthy way to get around. This course will explore the many facets of using a bicycle for transportation including rules of the road, route planning, clothing selection, cargo hauling, bicycle maintenance, and safe riding technique -- everything one needs to confidently ride a bicycle in a city. Great for international students who are unfamiliar with local traffic laws. This course meets for one hour a week and will be a combination of classroom lectures and on-bike practice. -
PDP OE 340: Rock Climbing, Advanced
Must have taken PDP OE 140 Rock Climbing or have equivalent experience. Learn advanced rock climbing skills including lead climbing and lead belay, how to set up and clean toprope anchors and rappelling. This course also explores social and environmental issues related to outdoor rock climbing. -
PDP SK 100: Basic Skating
Basic forward and backward skating, balance and control, all stops, turning forward to backward, and crossovers. Must have your own skates. -
PDP SK 103: Figure Skating
Develop turns and edge sequences and learn half rotation jumps, one and two foot spins, and pivots. Gain control, balance, and power.
