  • PDP ER 410: International Trauma Life Support (ITLS)
    Prereq: First Responder or Emergency Medical Technician Certification. International Trauma Life Support for the EMT-B and First Responder is a hands-on continuing education training course offering basic EMS personnel complete training in the skills necessary for rapid assesment, resuscitation, stabilization, and transportation of trauma patients. The course is designed for providers performing initial evaluation and stabilization of the trauma patients. Class fee includes required text.
  • PDP ER 415: Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)
    Prereq: First Responder or Emergency Medical Technician. Prehospital Trauma Life Supprot (PHTLS)is a unique continuing education program created in recognition of the real need in EMS education for additional training in the handling of trauma patients. This indispensable program is designed to enhance and increase knowledge and skill in delivering critical care in the prehospital environment. The course focuses on trauma patients in the prehospital environment-how to identify, manage, and transport them with the highest level of care and give them the greatest chance of survival. Class fee includes required text.
  • PDP ER 420: Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP)
    Prereq: First Responder or Emergency Medical Technician. Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP), developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics, provides the core knowledge and skills to prepare prehospital professionals for comprehensive assessment and management of cirtically ill and injured infants and children. The course emphasizes accurate assessment using the Pediatric Assessement Triangle, family and child communications, error reduction in assessment and treatment and pediatric-specific transport decisions. Class fee includes required text.
  • PDP ER 450: Advanced Cardiac Life support (ACLS)
    Prereq: Emergency Medical Technician or equivalent and ER 450 Airway Management and ER 445 ECG and Pharmacology. This course is designed for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the resuscitation of a patient whether in or out of the hospital environment. ACLS emphasizes the importance of basic life support CPR to patient survival, the integration of effective basic life support with advanced cardiovascular life support interventions and the importance of effective team interaction and communication during resuscitation. Realistic simulations reinforce the following key concepts: proficiency in basic life support care, recognizing and initiating early management of peri-arrest conditions, managing cardiac arrest, identifying and treating ischemic chest pain and acute coronary syndromes, recognizing other life-threatening clinical situations (such as stroke) and providing initial care, ACLS algorithms, and effective resuscitation team dynamics. Students who pass course requirements earn a two year certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support from the American Heart Association. Class fee includes required text and materials.
  • PDP ER 460: Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS)
    Prereq: Advanced Cardiac Life Support. This course is designed for pediatricians, house staff, emergency physicians, family physicians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists and other healthcare providers who are responsible for the well-being of infants and children. PALS provides the information needed to recognize infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest. This class reviews information and strategies needed to prevent cardiopulmonary arrest in infants and children and the cognitive and psychomotor skills needed to resuscitate and stabilize infants and children in respiratory failure, shock or cardiopulmonary arrest. Students who pass course requirements earn a two year certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support from the American Heart Association. Class fee includes required text and materials.
  • PDP FT 111: Inclusive Weight Lifting
    A course in the principles of strength training using machine and free-weight exercises in a comfortable, supportive space. Improve muscle strength, tone, endurance and body composition with sensible, safe weight training. Offering basic techniques and advanced modifications for all levels.
  • PDP FT 112: Basic Weight Training Principles
    A course in the principles and methods of strength training using machine and free-weight exercises. Improve muscle strength, tone, endurance and body composition with sensible safe weight training.
  • PDP FT 115: Basic Conditioning
    Exercise form and function will be reviewed in depth to allow participants to develop balanced total body fitness programs. Weekly workouts will include a warm-up, strength training, flexibility and cardiovascular components.
  • PDP FT 125: Principles of High Intensity Interval Training
    This class is a mix of interval training, weightlifting, gymnastics and mobility exercises to increase participants overall fitness capacity. You will learn the principles and benefits of HIIT training.
  • PDP FT 130: Boxing
    Learn boxing basics starting with stance and hand placement and proceeding to the jab, the straight right, hooks, and uppercuts. Learn how to slip, duck, and parry a jab; practice counter-punches and footwork. Get a great aerobic workout and walk away with improved self-confidence.
  • PDP FT 131: Boot Camp
    A comprehensive course in real deal fitness. Work on cardio-respiratory muscular strength and endurance and flexibility. This is a tried and true workout consisting of running drills, abdominal work, upper body strength, and endurance exercises and walking with weight. Basic self-defense skills from boxing, wrestling, Jiu-Jitsu and American Combat Karate will also be covered. Get a solid base of physical and mental training to get in superior condition that will help in all sports and outdoor activities. This will be a high level class working with all ability levels.
  • PDP FT 132: Kickboxing
    This combination of American and traditional Thai kickboxing is a full-body, high-intensity workout that challenges muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility. Traditional Muay Thai uses fists, elbows, knees, and feet as tools of self-defense. Focus pads and kicking shields are used to teach correct punching and kicking techniques.
  • PDP FT 140: Marathon Training
    This course will provide the knowledge and physical foundation needed for students to prepare for completion of a 5K, 10K, marathon or marathon. Content will cover topics such as nutrition guidelines for distance running, injury prevention, creating and evaluating a training plan, maintaining and monitoring a training log, and planning of group runs. Information on obtaining an official entry into the Boston Marathon through fundraising efforts will be provided. The course will meet once a week.
  • PDP FT 230: Boxing Technique
    This class focuses on refining a student's current Boxing skills while utilizing a more technique-based conditioning component. The class will include offensive and defensive drills and will improve upon the 14 punches taught in Boxing (PDP FT 130). Students will have the ability to work on bag skills with heavy bags and manikins on occasion.
  • PDP FT 304: Fitness Instructor Certification Prep Class
    This class is designed to help you prepare to take the Athletics and Fitness Association of America (AFFA) Group Exercise Examination. You will learn how to create innovative fitness classes to inspire and motivate people in a group based fitness class. The course includes practical and theoretical seminars in anatomy and physiology, body alignment, sports nutrition, and exercise physiology. Workshops on warming-up, resistance training methods, athletic conditioning drills, Bosu and stability ball training, and flexibility techniques will be presented throughout the semester. It is required that to successfully pass the AFFA Group Fitness Examination you must purchase the AFAA Principles of Group Fitness Instruction 2nd Edition by the National Association of Sports Medicine (NASM). The textbook fee is $100 which must be paid on the FitRec website by the first class. There may be an opportunity for individuals who successfully complete this course and pass the AFFA Group Exercise Certification to teach FitRec PDP fitness classes or FitPass classes. 2 cr. Either sem.
  • PDP FT 306: Personal Trainer Certification Prep
    This class is designed to prepare you to take the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA-CPT) Certified Personal Trainer Examination. You will learn how to design safe and effective exercise programs and provide the guidance to help clients achieve their personal health and fitness goals. The course includes practical and theoretical seminars in basic anatomy and exercise physiology, fitness evaluation, exercise program design, nutrition, teaching methods, and safety issues. It is required that to successfully pass the NSCA Personal Trainer exam you must purchase the Essentials of Personal Training 2nd Edition by NSCA - National Strength & Conditioning Association, Roger W. Earle (Editor). The textbook fee is $100 which must be paid on the FitRec website by the first class. Individuals who successfully complete this course and pass the NSCA Personal Training Certification may be given an opportunity to personal train FitRec members or teach PDP fitness classes. 2 cr. Either sem.
  • PDP GS 100: Beginning Volleyball
    This course is designed for beginners who have either no experience to only a few years of limited experience. Learn and practice techniques used in power volleyball: bump passing, setting, spiking, digging, and serving. Various drills will be used to encourage skill improvement.
  • PDP GS 101: Fencing, Beginning
    This course will cover the rules of fencing, basic footwork, techniques, and physical training. Each class will include warm-ups and footwork, followed by fencing with electrical equipment. By the end of this course students will have a fundamental understanding of fencing and the discipline and sportsmanship that the sport requires.
  • PDP GS 107: Beginning Badminton
    This course will allow the students to understand the basics of badminton. It will introduce the old and new type of scoring in games, different hand grips, footwork, and badminton ranking. The students mainly focus on one type of hand grip, which is called the basic grip. This grip will allow students to perform different types of shots, enabling them to compete with players in the C division. 1 cr. either sem.
  • PDP GS 108: Gymnastics, Beginning
    Students concentrate on learning general body understanding and specific skills in tumbling and on apparatus. 1 cr either semester
