• SED ED 502: Professional Teaching Seminar I: Analyzing Foundations of Teaching
  Introductory seminar analyzes important foundational teaching issues: varieties of excellent teaching, diverse philosophies of schools, curriculum complexities in middle and senior high schools, history of education for the 20th and 21st centuries, and the power of community - culture - school inter-relations. ED 502 A1 must be taken in the fall, and ED 503 A1 must be taken in the spring. 0 cr.

  Introduces the critical study of race, culture, and identify. Explores theories to help students examine their own socialization and understanding of race, ethnicity, culture, and identity. Considers political, social, cultural, historical, economic, and power dynamics as a context for interpreting interpersonal and structural relationships. 3 cr.

  Explores effect of special needs on children birth to age eight. Introduces legislation, rights, services, stereotypes that affect children, families, and communities. Major areas of special needs are examined. Emphasis is on understanding children as individuals with varying performance and rates of development rather than members of a disability group. 3 cr.

  Semester-long, 300-hour school-based experience for education majors as an alternative to student teaching. The purpose of this field experience is to provide students an opportunity to observe, participate, and reflect upon classroom organization, management, instruction, and interactions. Does not satisfy requirements for student teaching. Permission of Instructor. 150- 300 hours. Variable cr.

  Extends and enhances both content knowledge and pedagogical knowledge for all participating teachers. Participants will sue both physical and virtual models as they analyze the characteristics and properties of geometric shapes; use coordinate geometry; apply transformation and use both visualization and geometrics modeling to solve problems. 3 cr.
• SED ED 632: Teaching and Learning Physical Science
  Examines the basic concepts of physical science including forces and motion of objects as well as the earth in space. Topics include ancient ideas of motion, Newtonian mechanics and gravity. Introduces the teaching of these concepts in the elementary classroom. Implements hands on at home investigations. 3 cr.
