2016–2017 Bulletin Addendum MS in Environmental Health Data Analytics
This Addendum entry reflects the following changes to an existing degree program:
- The MS in Environmental Health is now the MS in Environmental Health Data Analytics
- Updated credit requirements

The MS in Environmental Health Data Analytics program provides foundational knowledge in both the environmental health sciences and analytical approaches used to inform environmental policy decisions. Students are required to complete 32 credits of coursework with an emphasis on analytical methodology used in environmental health decision-making and policy analysis. The program can be completed in one year (Fall/Spring/Summer) for full-time students or two years (8 credits per semester, Fall enrollment) for part-time students. Students entering the program must have successfully completed an introductory course in statistics or biostatistics prior to enrolling in the program.
MS Requirements
MS candidates must complete a total of 48 credits with a minimum grade of B in each required course. The degree must be completed in five years.
All students take a common set of seven required courses and must earn a B or better in all seven courses.
- BS 723 Introduction to Statistical Computing (Students with no prior introductory course in statistics will be required to take SPH BS 704; in this situation, BS 704 will count for elective credit.)
- EH 710 Basic Human Physiology
- EH 717 Foundations of Environmental Health
- EH 725 Analytical Methods in Environmental Health

Students must participate in an Integrative Experience that has three components: a research or internship experience, a paper in which the student conducts a rigorous analysis of the work conducted, and an oral presentation of the paper in a departmental seminar. Students are expected to complete the Integrative Experience during the summer.
All Master of Science students must adhere to the MS Graduation Calendar in completing and submitting the elements of the Integrative Experience in 2016–2017.
All SPH students will need a laptop or tablet for classes, purchased according to the recommendations of the Medical Campus Information Technology professionals.
