  This is a one-semester review course for singers. This course is intended as a quick review of the basics and nuances of Italian, German, French, to be supplemented by in-class discussion and exercises, weekly homework projects, quizzes, and singing in class. Knowledge of the International Phonetic Alphabet is required. (1 credit)
• CFA MU 543: Art of Singing: Negro Spiritual
  This course is designed to introduce students to the art and style of singing the American Negro Spiritual. Various composers and arrangers will be introduced to the singers; rhythm and styles will be discussed and demonstrated; diction, coached pronunciations and the understanding of origination. 1 cr.

• CFA MU 545: Phonetics for Choral Conducting
  Provides an opportunity for students to develop and understanding of common pronunciation of English, Italian, German, and French for the performance of choral literature. The first half of the semester will be spent learning the International Phonetic Alphabet through in-class exercises, homework, quizzes, and tests, and in-class performance of choral works in English. The second half will involve learning symbols specific to Italian, German, and French, and conducting choral songs in those languages. Classes will meet for one hour twice a week. 2.0 credits.
• CFA MU 561: Basic Compositional Techniques
  Introduction to principles of composition. Instruction in calligraphy and manuscript preparation. Examination of contemporary music devices. Written work modeled on analyses of representative forms.2 cr. each semester.
• CFA MU 563: Composition 3
  Prereq: CFA MU 561, 562. Original work in traditional forms of musical compostion. Original work in traditional forms of music composition. (May be repeated for credit) 2 cr. each sem. Undergraduate.
• CFA MU 565: Composition 5
  Prereq: CFA MU 562, 564. Original work in contemporary musical composition. Undergraduate. 3 cr. each semester.
• CFA MU 567: CFA MU 567 A1: World Music Ensemble: African Drumming and Dance
  Learn to perform traditional songs, percussion music, and dance from traditions across sub-Saharan Africa and the Caribbean. Improve your rhythmic skills; lower performance anxiety. Enrollment is open to all students. No previous musical experience is necessary. variable cr. May be repeated for credit.
• CFA MU 568: Practical Piano 1
  Keyboard harmonization skills, sight-reading, technical drills and accompaniment for simple melodic lines. Designed to promote keyboard facility for graduate-level singers. Other music majors with permission. (Required of master?s degree Voice majors). 1 cr.
• CFA MU 571: Practicum 1
  Pre-K-5. Supervised student teaching in grades K-5, weekly seminar, individual conferences with University supervisor. Six weeks; minimum 150 hours required. 4 cr. each semester.

• CFA MU 580: Practicum Seminar
  Required for undergraduate and graduate Music Education students registered for Practicum. First semester seminar topics will include development of an educational philosophy, resume preparation, job interviewing, and classroom behavior management. Second semester seminar topics include a refresher on job interviewing, assessment, public and parental relations, and music program advocacy. Case study sessions will help seniors analyze complicated classroom situations. Students will be guided through the teacher licensure process and readied for entry into the music education job market. 0 cr. 2 semesters.
