CAS LZ 111: First-Semester Modern Persian
For beginners. Introduction to spoken and written Persian and to fundamentals of Persian grammar, with oral drills and written exercises. -
CAS LZ 112: Second-Semester Modern Persian
For beginners. Continues CAS LZ 111. Spoken and written Persian and fundamentals of Persian grammar, with oral drills and written exercises. -
CAS LZ 211: Third-Semester Modern Persian
Development of communication skills acquired in the first year (LZ 111 and 112). -
CAS LZ 212: Fourth-Semester Modern Persian
Continues LZ 211. Development of communication skills acquired in the first year (CAS LZ 111 and 112). Satisfactory completion of CAS LZ 212 fulfills the CAS language requirement. -
CAS LZ 380: Persian Epic and Romance (in English translation)
Introduction to classical Persian narrative literature. Readings include selections from the tenth century Persian national epic, Shahnameh (The Book of Kings), the Alexander romance, and other tales such as Laili-Majnun and Khusraw-Shirin. Carries humanities divisional credit in CAS. -
