Academic Progress and Graduation

University Policy

To obtain a bachelor’s degree, most students must have completed a minimum of 128 credits and 32 courses. As a guide for completing the four-year undergraduate program, students should keep in mind that sophomore status usually is attained by satisfactorily completing 32 credits of coursework; junior status, 64 credits; senior status, 96 credits. The number may vary depending on the college of enrollment.

The individual schools and colleges of the University have specific academic requirements and standards for determining satisfactory completion of a program of study (e.g., grades, concentrations, divisional studies).

To graduate, students must apply to their school or college by the deadline stipulated by the school or college.

Metropolitan College Policy

Undergraduate Policy

To achieve sophomore standing, a student must have completed six courses (24 credits) by the beginning of Semester I of the academic year. To achieve junior standing, a student must have completed 14 courses (56 credits) by the beginning of Semester I of the academic year. To achieve senior standing a student must have completed 22 courses (88 credits) by the beginning of Semester I of the academic year. A cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 (C) is required for graduation. No more than two grades of D can be applied toward any undergraduate degree. Application for graduation must be submitted at least six months before the intended graduation date. The proper forms may be obtained from and should be returned to ­Metropolitan College Undergraduate Student Services.

Graduate Policy

Graduation is not automatic. In order to graduate, students must apply for graduation the semester before they plan to complete their studies. Degrees are awarded in September, January, and May. Students will officially graduate only when all degree requirements are met. Students may participate in the May commencement ceremonies if they plan to complete all academic requirements by September.
