GRS LS 621: Reading Spanish for Graduate Students
Designed to prepare graduate students for the Spanish reading exam. Develops a knowledge of the fundamentals of Spanish grammar. Practice in translating passages. No previous knowledge of Spanish required. -
GRS LS 850: Seminar: Topics in Hispanic Literature
Two topics are offered in Fall 2011. Students may take one or both for credit. A1: Theories of Latin American Audio Cultures. An exploration of different theories of culture and cultural production centering on problems specific to Latin America. A review of ideas regarding culture (written, visual, performed) will lead into reflections on listening in relationship to consciousness and sociability. B1: "Mester de clerecía, the first Spanish school of poetry". Origins and evolution of the mester de clerecía and the unique poetic form it produced. Representation of Christians, Jews, and Moors in the setting of Medieval Spain. Works include Libro de Alexandre, Milagros de Nuestra Señora, and Libro de buen amor. -
