Portuguese: Language, Literature, Culture (including courses in English)

• CAS LP 111: First-Semester Portuguese
  Introduction to grammatical structures. Emphasis on aural comprehension, speaking, and pronunciation. Introduction to Brazilian and Portuguese culture. Lab required. Four hours weekly.
• CAS LP 112: Second-Semester Portuguese
  Completes study of basic grammatical structures. Emphasis on speaking and aural comprehension. Readings on contemporary culture. Writing assignments. Lab required. Four hours weekly.
• CAS LP 123: Intensive Elementary Portuguese
  Intensive elementary Portuguese for those with previous study of Spanish and other interested students. Equivalent of one year of college Portuguese. Speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills; introduction to the culture of the Lusophone world.
• CAS LP 211: Third-Semester Portuguese
  Review and practice of the structures of Portuguese. Use of spoken language in conversation. Readings in civilization. Writing exercises involving more complex grammatical and syntactical patterns. Lab required.
• CAS LP 212: Fourth-Semester Portuguese
  Further review of the structures of Portuguese. Intensive practice of spoken language. Different levels and styles through recorded materials. Advanced cultural readings. Frequent compositions. Lab required. Satisfactory completion of CAS LP 212 fulfills the CAS language requirement.
• CAS LP 224: Intensive Intermediate Portuguese
  Intensive intermediate Portuguese. Equivalent of second year of college Portuguese. Intermediate speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills with study of the culture of the Lusophone world. Completion of CAS LP 224 satisfies CAS foreign language requirement.
• CAS LP 305: Topics in Portuguese Language and Culture
  Centers on advanced Portuguese grammar and develops writing and speaking skills beyond the level reached in CAS LP 212. Provides a basic introduction to the main periods and features of Brazilian history and culture. Also suitable for heritage speakers.
