Terriers, Bears Tie in Double Overtime
Men’s soccer, Brown scoreless at Nickerson
The Terrier men’s soccer team played Brown University to a scoreless tie last Wednesday night at Nickerson Field, putting the Terriers 1-3-2 on the season, and Brown, the defending Ivy League Conference champion, at 2-2-1.
The Terriers were coming off a 4-0 victory over Rhode Island on September 14, boosted by shots by forward Shaun Taylor (SAR’09), with an assist from Stephen Knox (CGS’10), two goals from current America East Player of the Week Tom Strackhouse (SMG’10), and a clincher by Jin Oh (CAS’09). Brown took the field after splitting two contests at last weekend’s Aaron Olitsky Memorial/Nike Soccer Classic at the College of Charleston. The Bears won the first game, against Furman, 1-0, but lost to the host school on Sunday, 3-1.
The September 17 game was the 33rd meeting between Brown and BU, in a series that began in 1969, but took a hiatus between 1996 and 2003. Since the continuation of the rivalry, the Terriers have captured three of the six contests, with the losing team being shut out in each game.
The Terriers concluded a three-game homestand with Colgate, a team they had not faced since 1986, on Saturday, September 20, at 7 p.m. BU took the game against the defending Patriot League champion, 4-2, improving to 2-3-2. Shaun Taylor (SAR’09) made the first hat trick of his career, with the other score coming from Jon Jonsson (CAS’09), his first career goal.+ Comments
