The PROSTARS summer research program gives Boston-area Community College students the opportunity to conduct interdisciplinary research in physics, chemistry, or biology.   Supported by the National Science Foundation, research will be conducted in laboratories in the Departments of Physics, Chemistry, or Biology all of which have outstanding faculty and exceptional, modern facilities.

Participants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are enrolled in Boston-area Community Colleges.  Graduation in Spring 2011 is acceptable.  Participation by members of underrepresented minority groups (African-Americans, Hispanics, and Native Americans) is particularly encouraged.

The ten-week program offers six internships and runs from May 30 through August 5, 2011.  The student stipend is $4,400 for the summer.  Highlights include:

  • Conducting interdisciplinary research at the interface of chemistry/biology/physics
  • Training on state-of-the-art instrumentation
  • Guidance in presentation/communication/resume-writing skills
  • Presentation of work at University-wide research symposium at the end of the summer research session
  • Participation in science seminars and laboratory group meetings.
