Description |
DakhaBrakha, a world-music quartet from Ukraine, inspires cultural and musical liberation through unexpected combinations of Ukrainian melodies and global rhythms. The band’s bright and clear vocals are layered with traditional instrumentation from every corner of the globe, including Indian, Arabic, African, Russian and Australian influences. Founded in 2004 by avant-garde theatre director Vladyslav Troiskyi, theatricality is woven into every part of the band’s performance. Putting themselves at the intersection of Ukrainian folklore, transnational sounds, and contemporary theatre, this “ethnic chaos” band constantly moves between intimate textures and riotous expression, shaping a truly thrilling musical experience. DakhaBrakha has played more than 300 concerts and performances all over the world, most notably at the Australian WOMADelaide world music festival, and has released five albums to date.
