Disclosure Policy

Boston University School of Medicine asks all individuals involved in the development and presentation of Continuing Medical Education (CME) activities to disclose all relationships with commercial interests. This information is disclosed to CME activity participants. Boston University School of Medicine has procedures to resolve apparent conflicts of interest. In addition, faculty members are asked to disclose when any discussion of unapproved use of pharmaceuticals and devices is being discussed.

The program includes CDC recommendations for the use of certain drugs for unlabeled indications. However, these are recommended drugs of choice for treatment of STDs based on evidence-based guidelines by the federal agency charged with making these recommendations. Unlabeled indications are asterisked in the course content thus:Unlabeled Use

Target Audience

Physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, certified nurse midwives and nurses who provide medical care in private and public settings, such as primary care practices, student health centers, and STD and reproductive health care clinics.

Educational Needs Addressed

Most cases of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD’s) in the United States are seen in the private sector, that is, outside of STD clinics. Very little training in STD management is provided during medical school and residency. Clinicians need to be aware of the latest screening and treatment recommendations. Surveys among providers have identified STD training interest, especially in the format of an on-line self study.

  1. Take a sexual history and perform an STD examination more effectively.
  2. Collect laboratory specimens and choose appropriate laboratory diagnostic tests more effectively.
  3. Diagnose and manage more effectively STDs commonly encountered in an outpatient setting.
