ESRI’s ArcGIS is a popular commercial software package that includes many tools used for analyzing data with a spatial component and tools for creating maps to share your findings. This tutorial will go over the basics of ArcMap, a package within ArcGIS. We will review some general Geographic Information Systems (GIS) concepts, look at the layout of the ArcMap software, and utilize basic tools to create a simple map.
