Screening of Die Gstettensaga: The Rise of Echsenfriedl (Monochrom)

A long time ago, the so-called "Google Wars" engulfed the whole world in a deadly chain reaction. Civilization came to a grinding halt. But there is still hope. This is the story of a new beginning... Monochrom is an Austrian international art-technology-philosophy group founded in 1993 by Johannes Grenzfurthner. Grenzfurthner is an artist, writer, curator, and theatre and film director. He writes about hackerspaces, technology, counterculture, sex, art, subversion, philosophy, and politics. Grenzfurthner is a professor of art theory and practice at the University of Applied Sciences and is a lecturer on culture jamming at University of Arts and Industrial Design in Linz, Austria. He has been a guest lecturer at numerous universities in the United States as well. The sci-fi dark comedy tells the story of a journalist and a technician living in a dystopian future, long after the last remaining superpowers, China and Google, have gone to war with each other. With this film, Grenzfurthner deals with the politics behind media technology and nerd culture, and presents a critique of the spectacle and commodity fetishism. There will be time for a Q&A session after the film. Presented by The Center for Gender, Sexuality and Activism at Boston University
