Soldiers for Equality and Black History
With Prof. Cheryl Boots, CGS and Jane Silva, HGARC Get a unique look at the African American experience, focusing on slavery, emancipation, and activism, as well as achievements of members of the African American community in the 20th century. Interact with archival treasures like a rare first edition of Poems on Various Subjects by Phillis Wheatly, as well as early additions of notable works including Uncle Tom’s Cabin, and The Narrative of Sojourner Truth, a Northern Slave. View slave narratives documenting the life of escaped slaves, documents detailing the beginnings of the Robert Gould Shaw House and the NAACP, as well as the papers of prominent Boston University graduates including John Wesley Edward Bowen, the first African American to earn a Ph. D. from Boston University, and the culturally significant papers of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
