Writing Program Experiential Learning Funding

The Writing Program administers a smallĀ  fund to support experiential learning in WR classes. While the Sapiro funds (see our main funding page for more details) are intended to support new or one-time experiential learning experiences, the Writing Program EL funds are available to support classes with established experiential learning components, such as Boston Now courses.

You can apply for these funds by fillingĀ  the form below. We will prioritize giving funds to the maximum number of instructors who apply by the deadline. Other requests will be considered on a rolling basis if funds are still available. We ask you to use a BU OneCard or to pay for expenses out of pocket and submit for reimbursement using Concur, with the exception of honoraria, which the program must process.

Writing Program Experiential Learning Funds

Funding for ongoing or established experiential learning activities in WR classes. The deadline for Fall 2026 is Friday, August 7th 2026. Please have your requests in by then.

Describe how the activity relates to your course and explain its intended impact on participating students. How will the activity encourage students to apply class material and/or learn by doing? (max. 250 words)

*If yes, apply for Virginia Sapiro Academic Enhancement Funds instead.
Costs could include admission fees, tickets, honoraria (not to exceed $250), travel outside of the city, supplies related to community engagement, etc. Note that we cannot fund travel to locations that are accessible by public transportation or refreshments that are not directly related to the experiential learning activity.
