PTL Materials Collection

We are currently updating our process of allocating courses and planning for future semesters. As you may recall, we use three criteria when we are making course assignments for part-time lecturers and for BU faculty who hold full-time appointments in other units: (1) flexibility in scheduling, (2) teaching and citizenship record, and (3) diversity of course topics. To date, we have generally based the second criterion on student evaluations of teaching, but we know that those are just one, flawed, instrument. 

Therefore, and as part of our ongoing effort to continually improve the quality and consistency of our courses, we’re asking all part-time lecturers to share their syllabi and major course assignments from the past academic year with us, so we can gain a more complete and equitable view of the second criterion. Collecting additional materials will allow us to better recognize the excellent teaching we know is happening in your classes. This is a step toward ensuring that we have a fuller view of all our part-time lecturers, even in a large program like ours, and can inform decisions we make in the future as well as help us understand what kinds of professional development and support might be useful to instructors.
