Curriculum Coordinators

AY 2026-2027

All three Curriculum Coordinators (listed here) will be available for individual consults (by email or Zoom) before a semester and at any point throughout the semester if you have questions about assignments or in-class activities. Coordinators will also provide emailed feedback on draft versions of your syllabi. 

• Carrie Bennett teaches WR 120, 153, and 320. Her classes focus on poetry, gender, community, and creativity. She uses experiential activities to encourage creative ways of finding inspiration and is happy to discuss any aspect of student support or engagement.
• Michele Martinez teaches WR 120 and WR 152, and her topics include global dystopian narratives in fiction and film and representations of families in photographic archives and museums as well as photojournalism. Michele approaches teaching and mentoring from a perspective of care and community and loves talking about her current project that attempts to understand and enrich student reading practices in our writing classes.
• Malavika Shetty teaches WR 111, 112, 120, 152, and 153. Her classes focus on Language, Technology and Society, and on analyzing short fiction. She uses Wikipedia in the classroom as a way of building research and information literacy skills. She is available to consult about any level WR and has particular expertise in working with multilingual writers.

Serving as curriculum coordinator is a great opportunity to see the WP from a new vantage point, work with a wide range of colleagues, gain some administrative experience, and have an impact on the direction of the program. Duties include mentoring new faculty members, reviewing syllabi for new courses, updating resources, sending out Exercise of the Week, and editing Deerfield, as well as the possibility of working on a variety of special curricular projects (possibly facilitating a faculty seminar, etc.). The position comes with one course release per year. Curriculum coordinators serve three years, with one of our three coordinators (ideally) rotating out each year. At least one curriculum coordinator will be someone who specializes in teaching our ELL courses (WR 111 and WR 112), supporting the development and teaching of those courses, and working with faculty at all levels in their work with multilingual learners. Some summer and winter break work is required, but most of it can be done on your own schedule.

Calls will go out to all full-time lecturers for brief self-nominations once a year or when a current coordinator rotates out, whichever comes sooner; the director team will select the curriculum coordinator in consultation with current coordinators.
