This book analyzes two linguistic mechanisms for expressing and entrenching stereotypes: generics and social scripts. The first half of this book is primarily about the ways stereotyping language can be used to denigrate, oppress, or otherwise harm. The second half is about how the same linguistic mechanisms that entrench stereotypes can be used to resist and undermine stereotypes.

Invited commentators include Nancy Bauer (she/her), Erin Beeghly (she/her), Leda Berio (she/her), Sally Haslanger (they/she), Em Hernandez (they/them), Eleonore Neufeld (she/her), and Guillermo del Pinal (he/him).
