MASSPIRG Internships

My name is Allison Kerelo, I am an organizer with MASSPIRG. I am writing to you to introduce myself as well as tell you about internship opportunities we have for students.

As a reminder, MASSPIRG is a student-funded and student-directed advocacy group. We work on public interest issues like protecting the environment, public health and consumers.

Most recently we helped stop the overuse of antibiotics on factory farms. We did this by convincing fast-food chains such as, Subway and McDonalds, to stop buying meat raised with routine antibiotics.

This semester our top priority is New Voters Project. We will be helping to register 10,000 students throughout the state to vote through our non-partisan voter registration drive. We are looking for interns to help work on this campaign this semester.

Our interns don’t get people coffee. They are on the ground in their community building a voter registration coalition, coordinating voter registration, organizing political events, and more. You can check out a description of the internships here.

MASSPIRG is a statewide, student-directed, and student-funded advocacy group.

Professional organizers have been working with UMass Lowell professors, student leaders, and staff for the past few years on a variety of public interest and environmental campaigns. We provide internship and volunteer opportunities to students interested in making concrete change and building their own skills to be affective advocates for the public.

This Fall: Intern or Volunteer with MASSPIRG’s New Voters Project
This Election is going to be historic. Our government might not be working as well as we’d like – but we have the power to change that. For the first time in decades, young people are the largest voting block and our collective voices will make a big impact. We have professional organizers and skills trainings to help UML students learn the basics of how to do non-partisan voter registration and mobilization. Across the state of MA we’ll help over 10,000 students register to vote and make 20,000 voter contacts in the days before the election.

We also work on a variety of environmental issues like repowering Massachusetts with 100% Clean Energy.
